A father to the fatherless…is God in his holy dwelling…
God sets the lonely in families…
Psalm 68.5-6.
In 2010, more than 400,000 U.S. children lived within the foster system. Of those, less than 15,000 children were eligible for adoption. The rest were in temporary care with the hope of later reuniting with a drug-addicted parent, a family member in jail or an unemployed caretaker looking for a job.
Whether through a ministry, government agency or church, Christians must offer God’s love as “the helper of the fatherless” (Ps. 10:14). Hosea 14:3 says, “In [God] the orphan finds mercy.” God's family extends that mercy in Jesus' name, as foster families have a unique opportunity to model that truth.
